Who we are

We are behavioural change consultants who specialise in helping organisations and projects successfully change their people’s behaviours to ones that deliver High Performance results consistently.

Our Story

Breakthrough Change was founded in 1998 by John and Kay, two corporate banking professionals working in London during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Having seen the power of organisational change first hand, they understood the demotivating effects that poor change programmes can have on people and organisations. Their joint vision is to support organisations who really want to make the changes needed that lead to High Performance. Our programmes influence the behaviour of an organisations most valuable asset: people.

Our success at Breakthrough Change came one step at a time. We started with simple skill-based workshops that helped clients learn the subtleties of key communication and business skills and processes for organisational development. As our early-adopters grew, they took us with them. 2005 was a critical year for our scaling efforts, as we were challenged to build a collaborative Project Management Office (PMO).

The purpose of the PMO was to manage a series of GOCO (Government Owned, Contractor Operated) projects valued at £4.6B. These projects spanned a wide range of industries in the UK and US, including Construction, Engineering, Design, Science, Mechanics, Electrical, HVAC, and Nuclear. In turn, we needed to build Breakthrough Change into a robust operation capable of handling the full spectrum of corporate cultures. That’s when our High Performance Team Development Programme was born.

Based on 20 years of world class research by McKinsey and Harvard, we conducted a meta study that showcased the 6 pillars of high performance teams. In turn, we developed a High Performance Team Questionnaire (HPTQ TM) to measure how teams perform within each of the 6 pillars. Our efforts have been instrumental to our success on 47 complex projects where the average project value was £2.8B. Additionally, we shaved off 4.4% from the CAPEX budget, a testament to the high level of trust, collaboration, and respect we’ve developed for a diverse range of contractors and stakeholders.

 Since our advent, we at Breakthrough Change have operated for over 22 years, supported 165+ clients, worked with 30,500+ individuals, and achieved 96% of our new clients through recommendations.
